This 1979 Stern Magic is a 2-stage restoration, so the cabinet body is not being restored, just the playfield, and board sets.
You can read more about the different stages, and what’s covered in each under “Repairs & Restorations” tab.
So, a total playfield tear down has been completed. All solenoid assemblies have been rebuilt, and cleaned.
All playfield metal tumble polished for over a week.
Side rails have been repainted, and clear coated.
All playfield plastic posts, and other small plastic pieces have been tumble washed.
Playfield had the half moon mylars removed from in front of the slings.
Paint touch up was done in front of all pop bumpers, and a few other places, as needed, which the photo gallery will show.
One twin star rollover insert had to be replaced, as the receiving tongs on the underside were broken.
Then 5 coats of 2 part automotive clear was applied.
After curing for 4 days, it’s now being re-assembled.
The transformer power/rectifier board has been rebuilt, upgraded, and bench tested for proper output voltages.
Even though though the cabinet is not being restored on this project, I did send the 4 legs to be powder coated, as they were in super poor condition.
Balance of the boards will be looked at, and upgraded, and /or repaired this week.
Magic is a great playing game, and sadly often overlooked.
