Now well underway, is a 2-stage restoration of the 1980 Gottlieb Counterforce Sci-Fi themed widebody.
Excellent artwork by the famous Gordon Morrison, right up there with his best. (I know, they are all so good:)
A 2-stage restoration includes everything listed under “Repairs & Restoration” except for a full cabinet sand back and repaint.
Mind you, the cabinet will still receive gouge/chip repairs, then some brush paint touch ups; followed by a full clear coat application, which will result in a fresh “wet look” finish.
Playfield was in very good+ condition, so it received a full teardown, then a de-waxing & deep cleaning.
The wear area’s were repaired by hand, with Archival Ink pens.
Then the playfield was clear coated with 2-part automotive clear.
All smaller playfield metal bits, are in the tumbler, now on day 4.
All larger playfield, cabinet, and backbox metal, is being bead blasted, and power coated.
Solenoid assemblies are receiving a tear down, cleaning, and rebuild.
Board sets are being examined, and upgraded where needed.
On all Gottliebs, no exceptions, all harness pins are backed out of their female holders, and replaced, a mind numbing task, for sure.
Underside of the playfield, including harness, as been fully examined, cleaned, and tightened up, with extra zip ties.
Bad bulb sockets replaced, and “Absolute” LED’S added.
Forgot to take photos of the tear down process, so not much to see here.
Stay tuned.
